The Main Principles of Shia Malang’ism

It would be prudent to state explicitly here that according to Islam and the teachings of The Prophet (saww) and his Holy Household (as) the Love of the Holy Household (as) (Ahl ul Bait (as)) and the distancing from those who bear enmity for them is the basis of all deeds, and your intention (niyah) is the fulcrum of all actions.

As long as your basis is strong and your intention is pure, any deficiency in actions can be worked on to be perfected.

i- Selfless & Sincere Devotion-

The Quran states at verse 42:23- I ask nothing of you in recompense but love of the Ahlul Bait (as).

Mu’adat is where one spends freely from money & wealth, body and health & ego and self.
Only when ones pay’s from all three does he become someone who has practiced mu’adat.

Hence someone who spends money & expends his health but has not overcome his pride or ego has not practiced mu’adat.

ii & iii- Tabarra and Tawalla

There are two types of enemies of the Aimma (as) the nawasib and the muqassir.
The nawasib are those who hate the progeny of the Prophet (saww) and their followers.

The muqassir are those who try and find faults in the 12 Imams (as) and the infallible progeny of the Prophet (as).

The nawasib hate the shia because they follow the Aimma (as) but the muqassir are the enemies of the Aimma (as). Tabarra is on all the enemies of the Aimma (as) regardless of which period they are from.

Imam Jaffer Al Sadiq (as) said:

Hazrat Nuh (as) gave passage to dog & swine on his ark, but he did not allow a baseborn illegitimate to come on board! And our enemy nasibi (muqasir/wahabi) is worse than a base born illegitimate.

Maula Ameer (as) narrated:

One who believes in my stated, compiled and explained virtues is a momin (believer), arif (gnostic) and mustabsar (can see into the light). In relation to these virtues, he who holds doubts, hatred, considers it impossible or unplausible and suspects the virtues, then such a person is a muqassir nasibi.

From Isma`il al-Ju`fi. He said:

I said to Abu Ja`far (as): A man who loves Amir Al-Mu’mineen (as) but does not do bara’a from his enemies, and he says: He [Imam Ali (as)] is more beloved to me from those who opposed him.So The Imam (as) said: This is a confused (person) and he is an enemy, so do not pray behind him, not at all, unless you fear him.

Imam Jafar Sadiq (as) said:

“Whoso ever sits with a person who puts flaws on Us, or praises the one who lowers Us, or continues relation with the one who has cut relations with Us, or cuts relation with the one who has relation with Us, or befriends Our enemies, or has enmity with Our friends then verily he has denied (done Kufr) the one (Allah) who has revealed the Seven-repeated verses (Al-Hamd) and the Holy Quran.

The Messenger of Allah (saww) said: “When you will find people of bid`ah (innovation) and doubt/suspicion after me, do baraa’ (disassociation) from them and increase in your insults (sabihim) to them, and oppose (them) and bring evidences against them so they may not become greedy in bringing fasaad (corruption) to Islam. You must warn people against them and do not learn their bid`ah (innovation). Allah will write for you hasanaat (good deeds) for this, and will raise you darajaat (levels) in the next life.’”

Al-Majlisi said this hadeeth is Sahih (Authentic) Mir’aat Al-Uqool, vol 11, pg 77

In relation it should be sufficient to say this: Muhamad bin Abi AlFwaris in his book Arbaeen writes:

Umme Salma (ra) says: I have heard the Prophet (saww) saying:

Mamin qowmin yazkaroon fazl Muhamad (saww) wa Aal e Muhamad (as) Alla mabtat malaikatan min alsamaa-e takhbar hum wa tahadshaham

Those people who state the virtues of Muhammad (saww) and his holy Progeny (as), angels descend from the heavens to come to them, they make them aware and they speak to them.

When they return in flight to the heavens the other angels ask them ‘there is a very pleasant scent coming from you, we have not to this day smelt such a pure scent’.

The angels shall reply to them:

We have been sat in the midst of such people who were extoling the virtues of Muhammad (saww) and his holy progeny (as), we have adorned ourselves with their scent.

Those angels will beseech them that ‘take us with you to those people’ and they shall reply ‘they have dispersed’.

They shall say ‘take us to that place where they were sat so that we may obtain blessings from that place’.

iv- Promotion of and Participation in Azadari

The Aimma (as) have in their holy narrations told us the importance of mourning the tragedies and tribulations to befall the Aimma (as).

“One who weeps for Imām Husain (A.S.), surely, the Imām (A.S.) observes him and seeks forgiveness for him and requests his holy fathers to (also) seek forgiveness for him.”

Lady Zaynab(sa), when she saw the head of her brother Imam Hussain peace be upon him, being paraded in public, hit her(sa) forehead on the bar of the carriage she was travelling in, causing bleeding.

Blessed Angels on the 10th of Muharram every year cut their bare backs with swords due to the grief of my ancestors and forebears.

But to understand the status of Azadari and the respect they are due is evident in the following hadeeth:

The Holy Prophet (saww) narrated:

Daughter, when the mourners of my Hussain (as) are going to come to me at the well of kauthar, I will recognise them due to the bright light from their foreheads and the marks of mourning on their chests (through beating the chest).

And Daughter, how lofty will be the status of that congregation? When every sect will be searching for its leader and I Muhammad (saww) with the angels will be searching for the mourners of Hussain (as).

Due to them the earth will be grounded and due to them will it rain.

v- Emulating the lifestyle of Syed Faqeer

Many people may raise questions or objections as to spending time in Bargahs, doing Azadari & donating your wealth for the sake of Azadari as much as possible.

But throughout history we have examples of this from the time of the Aimma (as).

Our Lord The Holy Prophet (saww), Maula Amir-ul Momineen (as) and the remaining 11 Imams (as) stressed the importance of helping the needy, giving charity and ensuring a society which does not let anyone fall behind.

We have obligations towards our family, neighbours and community, and we have an obligation to be constructive and positive members of any society.
Tolerance, mutual respect, understanding, forgiveness and upholding truth and justice are integral parts of our social charter as taught by our faith.

We are required to value humans and humanity and not covet materialistic possessions.
